The School Musical Concert, May 1943
Spring (Haydn)
&
Sleepers, Wake! (Bach)
The 1943 concert was the third in the series instigated by G.P. Ambrose, P.E. Phillips and T.R. James, that continued until the mid-1960s. The musical works in 1943 were ‘Spring’ (Haydn) and ‘Sleepers, Wake!’ (Bach). The soloists included Leeds-born lyric soprano Elsie Suddaby, and the already well-established tenor Peter Pears, who was the partner of Benjamin Britten.
