Carol Service, 1950

This is a transcript from The Aberdare Leader of 30 December 1950 of a very short report of the joint grammar school Carol Service that took place on Wednesday, December 20th.

Carol Service

The joint Carol service of the Aberdare Grammar Schools was held at Trinity Church on Wednesday week. Carols were sung by both school choirs, and readings in Welsh and English given by head prefects.

Hymns and carols sung by the congregation were “Peraidd Ganodd ser y bore,” “O come, O Come Emmanuel.” “O Cenwch Fawl i’r Arglwydd,” “Christ was born on Christmas Day,” and “While Shepherds watched.”

The Head Prefect referred to was A.J.H. Gwilliam of Belmont Terrace, Aberaman. Trinity Church is situated on the corner of Canon Street and Weatherall Street. The church had seating for 700, which was just enough to hold the pupils and staff of both schools, not leaving much space for any parents who wished to attend. The church opened in 1867 and closed this year, 2012.
