Eric Evans was a significant Welsh educationalist and classicist. Born in Lampeter the son of a Congregationalist Minister he was educated at the College School, Lampeter; UCW Aberystwyth and Jesus College, Oxford.
He began his career as a teacher, with posts at Maesydderwen County School, Breconshire; Lampeter College School and Emmanuel School, Wandsworth.
In 1930 he moved into Higher Education initially as an assistant lecturer at U.C. Cardiff. Then in 1935 he was appointed as a CWB Inspector, and in 1943 Chief Inspector.
Following these appointments he became Registrar at Cardiff in 1946, Professor of Education in 1952, and finally Dean of the Collegiate Faculty of Education at Cardiff.
He died aged 66 two weeks short of his retirement.
