Mr W.E. Roberts’ Form, 1939

We do not have a name for any boy in this form photograph, but the form master is William Evan Roberts, and, sitting next to him with the mortar board is the retiring headmaster Mr William Rees Williams. It is possible that this is a first year sixth form, because we do know that Mr Roberts was had a fifth form the previous year.

Mr Roberts was born in 1899 and attended Maesteg Secondary School (1912–15) and Carmarthen Grammar School (1916–18). He gained an honours B.A. degree in English from U.C. Cardiff in 1922 - as well as his teaching qualification. He commenced his teaching career at Aberaeron County School in 1922, and stayed there until 1929 when he transferred to Aberdare Boys County School where he was appointed to teach English and Latin. Whilst at the school he gained an M.A. in English in 1932, and he stayed in Aberdare until the summer of 1946. Mr Roberts died in December 1995 in Cardiganshire.
