Tram Wires

Mining Chimney

The detail here shows the overhead tram electricity supply cables carried by the characteristic poles with their ornate finials. The electricity was generated at 'The Destructor', a generating station at the bottom of Depot Road which utilised the town rubbish as a fuel. The clock housing shows the original long supporting column for the weather vane. The one currently in place, 2010, is about half the length of this original.
