The Joint Schools Musical Concert
October 1947

The programme for the joint schools concert. The schools contributing were the Boys’ and Girls’ County Schools in Aberdare, and Mountain Ash County School.

H. Emsheimer was Hannalore Emsheimer, (1932–76), from the Mountain Ash School, daughter of Dr Arthur Emsheimer. Hannalore changed her name to Hanna Edmonds and later married Dr Barry Norman Lewis.
Leonard W. James, (1930–1994) was from Fforchaman Road, Cwmaman, and was a pupil at Aberdare Boys’ County School. Leonard was a founder member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales in 1946 — indeed he was its first Leader under the conductor Clarence Raybould. Leonard went on to forge a career in music. He was appointed Executant Tutor at UCW Aberystwyth in 1962. He died in Cardiganshire in 1994.
