In the opening months of 1957, Duffryn Aman Ambulance Division saw the end of an old cadet team and the beginning of a younger team. The team comprised of five boys, four incidentally from this School and one boy from another school. These boys are, namely Derek Davies (3 Alpha), David Medlicott (3A), Terry Smith (5 Alpha), Alwyn Griffiths (4 Alpha) and Jimmy Harrod.
After qualifying for the Welsh Finals competition, which was to be held in Cardiff on May llth, practice was to be held every night. The cadets wanted to win this competition because the last Duffryn Aman team to win this competition was in 1948.
On the decisive day, although nerves were not mentionable, the cadets won the competition, thus being “Champions of Wales”. With this win the cadets represented Wales in the British Isles finals, held in London on July 13th. Although with overwhelming odds the cadets came seventh.
The last main attraction of 1957 was the National Eisteddfod of Wales, held in North Wales. After a long and tiring trip, the cadets were ready for the competitions which lay ahead of them. From the Eisteddfod, Duffryn Aman Cadets won third and first prizes.
