School Uniform Advert from the Aberdare Leader
Following the publication of the 1962 O level results, the Aberdare Leader of 18 August 1962 decided to continue with the theme of education and remind readers it would soon be time for their sons and daughters to return to school needing appropriate uniform and equipment. Elizabeth Mear, a staff reporter in the 1960s, presented the article below that lists some of the school uniform and equipment suppliers in the town. I don’t know why Hodges in Victoria Square is not mentioned though—it’s where my mother took me! Neither did I know that the Leader Offices sold stationery items, but clearly they had a good selection at Aberdare — in Station Street next to the Fire Station, and in Mountain Ash.
