Display of Commemorative World War 1 mosaics and art work
at Aberdare Community School
sent via Geoff Abbott
Items produced by pupils of the Art Department of Aberdare Community School to commemorate World War 1 were unveiled at an informal ceremony on Monday, February 12, 2018. The new displays are to be found on the second floor of the school building not far from the original memorial plaques that were relocated from their previous homes in the assembly halls of the Trecynon and Cwmdare Road school buildings. Both the Headmaster and Head of History at the school addressed the gathering, and Dr Geoff Abbott, a former Head of Mathematics at ABGS, and subsequently Headmaster at Aberdare Boys Comprehensive School, was also in attendance.
This mosaic represents the three soldiers, who through war and hardship, have become brothers in arms.
A representation of how industrialisation entered the battlefield and, as a result, how it found new ways to take the lives of our lost generation.
This mural represents the countries that fought in this awful conflict, and it should be seen as a way of showing the global scale of the conflict.
